A cinematic opening film sets the stage for the Nitto ATP Finals, designed as the first visual moment of the entire show.
The sequence blends real world city footage with dynamic energy effects: beams of light rise from iconic locations around the globe and converge in space above Turin, forming a glowing sphere shaped like a tennis ball.
From this core, a final surge of energy descends into the arena, transforming the buildup into a powerful, symbolic reveal that connects the global history of the Finals with their present stage.
Project Scope
Challenge
The opening film for the Nitto ATP Finals had to set the tone for a major international event, aligning the vision of multiple stakeholders while fitting into a tightly structured production pipeline.
At the same time, the sequence was being developed alongside an original soundtrack, making timing, pacing and emotional beats critical from the very first stages.
The creative challenge was to translate a global narrative into a short cinematic moment, building a believable sense of scale between Earth and space within a limited runtime of under one minute.
Solution
Working closely with the creative team, I focused on designing a visual structure that could evolve in parallel with the score, allowing music and imagery to reinforce each other rather than compete.
Through careful shot design and compositing, the space sequences were built to maintain realistic proportions and a clear sense of distance, using light, motion and timing to communicate scale without relying on lengthy scenes.
A collaborative workflow across departments ensured that creative ambition and technical constraints stayed aligned, resulting in an opening film that feels cohesive, impactful and worthy of the event’s global stage.
